Homemade pumpkin spice syrup for home baristas
Fall time is right around the corner (wishful thinking for those of us in Florida, but that won't stop the majority from diving headfirst into fall flavors), and that means it’s time for pumpkin spice everything. Specifically, pumpkin spice syrup for all your coffee needs.
Now, I never carried pumpkin spice syrup at my pop-ups, because I had my own version of a fall drink: the fall-ish, made ginger lager syrup. But I've made this specific recipe plenty of times for my pumpkin spice iced latte-loving husband over the years.
So here's the homemade pumpkin spice syrup recipe, for all of you having fun being home baristas. Save it, make it this weekend, and start September off right.
Ingredients
1 cup water
1 cup white sugar
1 cup pumpkin puree
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ginger
1/4 tsp cloves
1/4 tsp nutmeg
Pinch of salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
Mix water, sugar, and pumpkin puree over medium heat.
Once incorporated, add spices and salt, and mix.
Bring to a boil, then simmer on low for 5 minutes.
Let cool for 5 minutes, then add the vanilla.
How to Use Pumpkin Spice Syrup
Once your syrup cools and you bottle it, and it's ready to add to your coffee. A few ideas on how to use it:
Lattes: use 25gr of the syrup, a shot of espresso, and 10oz of the milk of your choice. If you prefer iced increase to 30gr, and use a shaker to fully incorporate the syrup!
Top pastries with this syrup, and turn it into a glaze by adding powder sugar and whisking it until it’s a thicker consistency.
If you already make cold foam at home, sub your regular sweetener with this syrup to add a fall twist to it
